Reading, 2.0

I originally set this blog up as a place to review books I was reading and to have a little practice at talking about books (since that was pretty much my entire life as a student). It morphed into a school project my last semester of college, and now it has lain dormant since December.

It think it's time to pick things back up.

But this time I'm not limiting myself to book reviews.

What exactly I'm going to expand to, I'm not yet sure, but I have some ideas.

• Link ups. There are a couple of blogs on there on the interwebz that offer literature/writing related link ups, which offer great inspiration AND an opportunity to bring in new readers.
• Book reviews...That I haven't written. I'm not sure if this is a cop-out or not, but I like the idea of actually going through some book reviews and then sharing them with a larger audience.
• Reviewing movies/T.V. shows based on books. I LOVE getting ticked off about movies that don't do the book their based on justice. I just love getting ticked off, period.
• My own writing. So, I write things other than crappy blog posts, you know. I might, very occasionally, post those writings here.

That's what I've got so far. I may find myself doing all of these or none (though I think "none" is unlikely). What with college being done and behind me I want to have a project that requires me to do at least a little thinking; I don't want to forget how, you know?

Here We Go Again!

So, after a much longer than anticipated hiatus, I am back blogging again. I had a nice long summer filled with a variety of books, but mostly Diana Gabaldon (I was attempting to reread her entire Outlander series, as mostly successful, but I have the last two books to go and I doubt I'll touch them until December).

Right now I am back in school and very happily ensconced in my Young Adult Literature class. Now, the benefit of this class is that I actually have to make time to blog here, because my blog entries will be counting as my evidence for having read ten (count 'em, ten) young adult books. So very, very exciting. Hopefully I enjoy all the books I'm about to tackle!

What's this about?

What I'm about to share with you are my adventures in literature--the ups and downs, the great triumphs and the unbearable losses. I love to read, and it's a passion that I want to share with others, either through teaching, writing, or through this blog (if anyone bothers to read it). Over the course of the summer, and hopefully through the upcoming Fall and Spring semesters, after I finish a book (hopefully there will be many), I plan on posting a review. If anything, the writing of the review will be an exercise for me in working with literature, something I certainly need. At the most, I hope this blog might someday become a tool for someone in choosing a good book. I don't claim to be an expert in literature, inherently knowing what is "good" or what is "bad" by our culture's somewhat arbitrary standards (I still don't get what's so great about Hemmingway...), but I read a ton, and I read a pretty large variety of books, and that, I feel, gives me some level of credibility. Expect to see everything from old classics (think Dickens, Austin) to contemporary (McEwan, Atwood) to completely random children's books I've been reading my 14 month old. And please, please feel free to let me know you're reading along. Comment on reviews. Tell me they're great, tell me they're total crap. Let me know if you've read the book, too, and what you think! I want to know that I'm not the only one on this adventure. So, c'mon, let's go!
